Description: Nonpoint Source (NPS) Rankings for waterbodies reflect an analysis of the waterbodies' potential to respond to best management pactices and are used in the ranking of project proposals for the Targeted Runoff and Stormwater Management Grant Programs. Rank/Description: (a) High Stream - The stream is likely to respond to BMPs and has one or more of the following a) endangered or threatened species; b) fish population, diversity less than optimal; c) recurring fishkills, d) dissolved oxygen violations, ammonia standard violations, high nitrate levels, toxicity due to pesticides or other NPS toxicants, high levels of suspended solids or an HBI or Family Biotic Index rated poor or very poor. There might be a high rate of streambed sedimentation or accelerated negative physical changes to stream morphology occurring; There is there a predominance of undesirable vegetation (algae or macrophytes) (b) Medium Stream - The stream may respond to nonpoint source controls and is a threatened ORW or ERW or is considered threatened based upon data. (c) Low Stream - The lake is not sensitive to phosphorus or sediment and will not likely benefit from BMP implementation. The stream is not threatened. (d) High Lake - The lake is sensitive to phosphorus and sediment and is likely to response to BMPs. (e) Medium Lake - The lake is moderately sensitive to phosphorus or turbidity but does not have any known sensitive species or is not an ORW/ERW. (f) Low Lake - A lake receives a low ranking if it is not sensitive to phosphorus and would not benefit from NPS BMPs. (g) Not Ranked - This waterbody is not yet assessed for nonpoint source ranking. Description: Impaired Waters Categories denotes the management category of the listed water. Category Code / Description: (a) Point Source - Waters (usually waterbody segments) in which the impairment is present as a result of a current discharge from an existing point source. (b) NPS - Waters in which the impairment is present primarily as a result of nonpoint source runoff or from the destruction of habitat caused by nonpoint sources. (c) PS/NPS Blend - Water in which nonattainment or standards is substantially affected by both point source contributions and nonpoint source runoff, and in which both types of sources, each may be contributing to the failure to achieve water quality standards. (d) Contam. Sediment - Waters (usually segments of waterbodies) in which the impairment is present primarily as a result of toxic or other substances which may be affecting either the ecology or uses of the site or moving off-site and affecting other uses of the water at locations beyond the boundary of the contaminated sediment. (e) Atm. Deposition - Waters in which the impairment is primarily as a result of atmospheric deposition of toxic substanced (such as mercury) into the waterbody and sediments resulting in concentrations in fish tissue above levels safe to consume. (f) Habitat/Physical - Waters in which the impairment is primarily the result of destruction of habitat for aquatic organisms due to flow obstructions or physical barriers to the movement of water where aquatic organism populations are impacted by alterations in the natural flow of water at a particular site. (g) Other Factors - Water in this category primarily include large waters, involving basins, or multibasin areas, which may be impaired as a result of several different categories of impairment or there are uncertainties regarding the cause of impairment. (h) 303d Proposed - Waters in this group are watch list recommended for listing.

Description: Impaired Waters Status denotes the management status for the restoration of the waterbody. Status Code / Description: (a) 303d Listed - Conduct inventory of available data, identify and evaluate data gaps, determine needed monitoring.
(b) EAP Project - EAP indicates an "Environmental Accountability Project" may be prepared for this waterbody as an alternative to a TMDL. (c) Proposed for Listing - Proposed Water for Impaired Waters Listing. (d) Proposed Change to Listing - A change to the existing 303d listing is proposed for the next submittal to the USEPA during the integrated reporting process. (e) Proposed Delist - Waterbody meets water quality standards. A TMDL evaluation report with proposed delisting data is submitted to the USEPA for approval. (f) TMDL Development - Interpretation and analysis of model and development of TMDL reports. The TMDL report will describe waterbody impairments and a validated list of pollutants as well as recommended load allocations and a schedule for pollutant load reductions for specific sectors of the waterbody and watershed of interest. (g) TMDL Implementation - Implement TMDL as described. (h) TMDL Submittted - TMDL has been submitted to USEPA but is not yet approved. (i) TMDL Approved - TMDL Report has been approved by USEPA. TMDL Implementation may be ongoing or may be pending. (j) Water Delisted - The waterbody has met its water quality standards for the pollutant subject to TMDL implementation and the water is now removed from the 303d list and no longer subject to TMDL work for the specific subject pollutant.
